Updates to Telemedicine for Evaluation and Management Services

Description:
Telemedicine for evaluation and management (E/M) services are not new in healthcare, but there were significant changes to access in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE).  Since the end of the PHE providers and patients still want the ability to access care, but not always in-person.  In response to the changes happening, the American Medical Association (AMA) created 17 new category I CPT® codes specific to telemedicine, effective January 1, 2025.  We will review the 17 new codes and documentation guidelines. We will also review how payers, like Medicare, are directing providers to bill for telemedicine services, which currently are not with the use of the new codes. 

Learning Objectives:
Course participants will be able to:

1. Understand the definitions, documentation and use of the 17 new telemedicine E/M codes. 
2. Understand the billing guidelines for the new telemedicine services 
3. Understand the guidelines from Medicare and other payers for reporting of telemedicine E/M services and how they may not include use of the new codes.
